An urgent appeal has gone out to help find Mika the Dogue de Bordeaux who was on her way to her new owner in the Fens but slipped her lead and went missing.

The 18 month old dog, that is ginger with a white patch on her chest, was being transported by a professional pet carrier service and had come all the way from Dumfries in Scotland to her new home in Wisbech St Mary.

However, as the driver went to hand her across to her new owner, she became nervous, slipped the lead and ran off.

Her devastated former owner is offering a reward for her safe return and is upset at the thought of the dog being frightened in a strange area.

Andrea Crawford said: “I have Mika’s mum, who had a litter of puppies and they all went to new homes.

“We kept Mika for 18 months but realised she needed a new home where she could get all the exercise that she needs. She needed more of an outdoor life.

“So we decided to let her go. She is like a big puppy, she may be a big dog so might look scary but she is very timid. I think she will probably be quite scared right now.”

Harris Pet Transport of Leeds were carrying out the collection and delivery for Andrea.

A spokesman said: “The driver delivered the dog to the customer and on handing over the dog it got scared.”

Mika had a choker lead on but instead of going away from the dog the new owner who had bought her, came forward to her.

Mika managed to slip the collar and ran off, he said.

“It was a genuine mistake.

“Afterwards the driver stayed for five hours.”
