More than £1,000 was raised for charity at the Wisbech Business & Professional Men’s Club’s annual ball.
At their monthly meeting, held at Mendi’s, chairman Tony Yates thanked those that attended and helped to raise £1,195.00 towards the club’s charity fundraising efforts.
The chairman then re-mentioned that the ten-pin bowling night will be held on Monday December 3 at Strikes in King’s Lynn, organised by committee member David Patrick.
The speaker this time was Diane Carlton Smith from the Fenland History Society. She spoke on the history of Fenland Mistory for 160 million years.
Diane also mentioned the history of the Wisbech Castle then David Hodgson said: “I am very pleased that the Wisbech Castle now owned by the Wisbech Town Council has been updated and now open very often even for a tea and coffee.”
Diane, with her husband Tony Smith, who is a treasurer at the club, then sold many books with early history of Wisbech and the Fens to members.
The club’s next meeting at Mendi’s is on November 24 with guest speaker Cliff Carson as the drainage board environmental officer.
