SWIFT Recruitment acted illegally by locking out a tenant who damaged a Wisbech flat, it was claimed this week.

The company were employing Gary Lambert at the time he "suddenly flipped," smashing a window and trashing some of the flat's contents.

He returned to the premises in Norfolk Street to discover the locks had been changed.

Lambert, 31, now living in King's Lynn, admitted smashing a window, and damaging a television and a lamp in the flat above Blockbuster on August 29.

Police were called by video shop staff who were concerned when glass from the smashed window showered down on to the pavement.

As officers approached the flat they were met by Lambert, who was drunk and had a cut on his hand and blood in his clothing. He "held his hands up" to causing damage.

Lambert was so drunk that police bedded him down for the night, and interviewed him the next morning. He later told police he had argued with his partner and "flipped out" before causing the damage.

Mitigating, John Clarke said Lambert had been brooding after the argument, and then "flipped." He threw something at the window, and glass fell to the pavement below.

Lambert was given a 12-month conditional discharge and must pay £250 compensation and £50 costs.
