SUB-zero temperatures failed to stop Cambridgeshire County Councillor John Reynolds joining the Fenland gritting fleet to see how it all works.
Cllr Reynolds, a member of the county council's environment and community service committee, went on the gritter as it covered roads on a route from March to Chatteris, through Wimblington and Doddington, and back.
"It was a very good experience and, from a member's point-ofview, I think it is vital to see how the services are delivered," said Cllr Reynolds.
"The chance to go out with the drivers and hear their experiences will help us to ensure that people have safe journeys during bad weather."
This week's weather, which dropped to -2C on Tuesday night, has seen gritters hit Fenland's roads twice a day this week.
