COLOURFUL blooms combined with well-loved tunes over the weekend when Terrington St Clement chapel celebrated the 300th anniversary of the birth of leading Methodist figure Charles Wesley.
Love Divine, Hark the Herald Angels Sing and Soldiers of Christ Arise were a few of the Wesley hymns that the women of the chapel depicted in floral arrangements as part of the celebrations.
Organisers Mary Houghton said they had plenty of choice because Wesley is said to have composed some 3,000 hymns.
"All the arrangers selected their hymn and, using a variety of summer flowers, predominately in creams, white and gold, reflected the words," said Mrs Houghton, a steward at the church.
As well as the 13 different flower displays, there were also stalls and, despite the rain on Saturday a steady stream of visitors called in. The weekend included special services and there was an exhibition looking at the life and times of Charles Wesley. The display was put together by church member David Wilson.
