ANGRY that his sister had been dumped by her partner when pregnant, John Waite assaulted the baby's father in Wisbech Market Place.
His fists were clenched and his eyes were bulging as he grabbed James Brown - and a police community support officer got between the two men, a court heard. Mitigating at Fenland Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, Roger Glazebrook said Waite had been "at his wits' end" because Mr Brown had been making rude remarks about his sister.
"He did grab him on the shoulder," he said. "He wanted to stop his sister being treated in that way."
Waite, 31, of Sutton Crosses, Long Sutton, admitted assault and possessing cannabis. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and must pay £60 costs.
