LABOUR'S top Fenland team visited the Nene Waterfront project to find out how European cash will help redevelop Wisbech.

The European Regeneration Fund (Go-East) has contributed £3 million towards the total public sector £10.4 million contribuition to the development.

Richard Howitt, Euro MP for Cambridgeshire, and Peter Roberts, Labour's prospective Parliamentary candidate for North East Cambridgeshire, found out how the money will help boost tourism and employment in the Fens.

Mr Howitt said: "The Nene Waterfront project is a practical example of how Europe is really making a difference to local people, improving a historic part of the centre of Wisbech, whilst at the same time creating new jobs and affordable housing for the area.

"As a local European representative I hope that European funding can continue to provide resources for regeneration and employment well in to the future".

The Labour representatives were given the tour by Harbour Master Peter Harvey and Fenland District Council's Perry Holmes.
