PETER KENDALL, president of the National Farmers' Union, was guest speaker at Long Sutton and District Agricultural Society's annual 60th dinner.
He talked about the increasing importance of agriculture and the need to raise farming issues up the political agenda.
A recent Government document, stating the by 2050 half of the world's land could be unusable due to scarcity of water and energy demands.
He said that the soils of South Lincolnshire will be very significant and must produce as much food as possible.
Mark Rose, president of the Long Sutton Agricultural Society, reported on the Society's recent activities, including their taking part in the Long Sutton Civic Society's heritage day.
