Reading & Leeds festival might be most teenagers' choice of post-GCSE blowout but, for those in East Anglia who want to stay closer to home, Sundown festival provides an equally appealing option.

Bringing a line-up of the biggest names in pop, rap, drum 'n' bass and house to Norfolk Showground near Norwich, its 2022 edition again saw thousands of revellers celebrate one of the last weekends of summer by raving the hours away.

A field of bucket hats, sunglasses and colourful outfits covers the site, with the Nest remaining one of the busiest stages.

It might only be 2pm but the space is already packed, signifying that these teens are here for the party vibes, and that time is a somewhat forgotten concept once inside.

While friends climb on shoulders in the big top tent and skank along to the bass-heavy sections of d’n’b DJ/producers like Goddard and Vibe Chemistry, deeper into the forest LoveJuice host a house party under trees that are lined with hanging disco balls.

Elsewhere, on the main stage, one of the UK’s most exciting upcoming pop artists, Claudia Valentina, plays to a modest yet appreciative crowd; she still gives her all though and proves that ‘Sweat’ is an undeniable bop.

Rap-rock-dance duo Everyone You Know bring a socially-conscious punk edge and do their bit to wake everyone up from their Sunday slumber with poignant tracks like ‘My Generation’ and the dancier singalong ‘There For You’.

Later in the day, the line-up skews towards rap with viral stars A1 x J1 and Love Island’s Wes Nelson taking to the stage; the latter has the time of his life, grinning from ear to ear and running down within the crowd as he performs ‘See Nobody’.

One of the biggest crowds of the afternoon is for DJ Nathan Dawe, however; joined by a brilliant drummer and live saxophonist, the trio rocket through 100 dance and pop classics.

Later, d'n'b rapper Bru-C storms the main stage before Bad Boy Chiller Crew bring their cheeky bars to the site - both artists delivering their final UK festival shows of the year.

As the sky darkens, things turn more dance-orientated, with Jonas Blue bringing the Ibiza tech and house party, complete with flashing strobes and flames shooting out on stage.

Over in the Castle, Jax Jones reaches peak euphoria with his blend of percussion-filled tribal pop and house fusing with colourful eye-popping visuals.

By the end of the night, after headliner Sean Paul has got temperatures rising back on the main stage, there's no doubting that Sundown remains an essential summer weekender for music lovers.
