A 1940s dinner dance will be held next month to raise funds for a Wisbech homeless shelter.
On Saturday September 19, the Luminus Ferry Project will take over the Queen Mary Centre in Wisbech to put on an evening to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
Guests are invited to don 1940s inspired outfits and to bring their dancing shoes. There will be music and entertainment from the era, as well as a hog roast, bar and raffle.
Sponsored by Anglian Water, it’s hoped the event will raise more than £5,000, which will be used to help fund the work of Luminus Ferry Project’s Night Shelter.
Luminus Ferry Project provides up to 88 bed spaces in Wisbech and engages with nearly 400 people per year.
These include people with financial problems, people fleeing domestic violence, people recovering from a family breakdown or from drug and alcohol abuse, young people leaving the care system, those who have been sexually abused, ex-offenders and those with simply nowhere else to go.
Support for the event has already been pledged by local groups and voluntary organisations, with volunteers from the National Citizen’s Service (NCS) and Luminus Ferry Project staff giving up their time to make it a success. Raffle prizes are still needed for the event and will be greatly received
Luminus Ferry project director, Keith Smith, said: “Fundraising events like this, as well as donations received by the public, local businesses and charities are important for Luminus Ferry Project, as they enable us to continue to offer the support we do to the many people who are affected by homelessness in Fenland.
“We are very grateful for the support we receive, and hope to see lots of people at this wonderful event.”
Doors open at 7pm. Tickets to the event are £19.45 per person and can be bought from Octavia View, Wisbech, or by calling 01945 429300. Discounts are available for group bookings, and all proceeds will be donated to the homeless shelter.
