THERE was only one fruit on the minds of people in Wisbech at the weekend - apples.
And, with more than 20 varieties on display, apple pies on sale and pictures of apple pickers from a century ago, it was easy to see why.
It was all part of the 18th national Apple Day, celebrated in Wisbech with competitions and events in the town centre on Friday and Saturday.
Free packets of sliced apples were on offer, along with recipes, apple school bars and fruit sticks on stalls in the Market Place. Bramley apples grown at an orchard in Wisbech St Mary, were also made into tasty pies.
A French and continental market on Friday offered a range of goodies to eat, with a shop window apple hunt in the Horse Fair shopping centre just one of the competitions.
And there was the chance to see some photographs from the Lilian Ream Collection depicting apple pickers from local orchards during the early 1900s.
Annie Appleby, of the Apple Day committee, said: "We are so grateful to all the companies that supported us and donated lots of prizes for our winners.
