I HAVE some old newspaper cuttings from August and September 1925 and July 1927 of my Father's (TB Jenkins) seven-mile swim in the river Nene.
He was at that time the captain of the Wisbech swimming club
The second attempt in Sept 1925 was a record - one hour 36 minutes and 30 seconds - the previous best time being in 1911.
I wonder whether you have any records of this in your archives.
It would be interesting to know whether the record was ever broken and when such swimming stopped - I see from the Wisbech swimming club web site that they refer to such swimming having stopped much earlier than 1925.
