I WAS a registrar in obstetrics and gynaecology at Bowthorpe Maternity Hospital, Wisbech from March 1, 1963, to February 29, 1964.

This was my first job in this country since my arrival from India and I was not familiar then with the various customs in this country.

The reason for writing this letter is that after I delivered a baby at Bowthorpe, the mother was so pleased that she asked me if I would like to be the baby's godfather.

I readily accepted the proposal without knowing what is meant by being godfather.

I never made any attempt to contact the family since. It is only recently it came to my mind that I should make some effort to contact them after such a nice gesture from the mother.

If you are reading this letter and think I could be the doctor, please contact me. The Editor of the paper has all my details.

I sincerely hope to hear from the family soon.
