IT is such a pity the walk to school week couldn't be extended to walk to school every day because there are by far too many 'lazy' people using cars who are fit enough to walk.

Only the other day, when my partner and I returned home from shopping, we were unable to park near our home because there were so many parents picking their children up in their cars, blocking not only the avenue, but our parking area as well.

One mother jumped in her car and reversed it without even checking her mirrors. Good job I was alert, or she would have hit our car.

When I was at school a few years back now, we had no choice but to walk to school, because of where we lived.

In the latter years, we got cycles and even then there were the regular punctures owing to pathetic road conditions where we lived, so we walked again.

We lived more than a mile from each school we attended and walked whether it rained, hailed, snowed or even blew a gale, which is more than the children of today are doing.
