There is no shortage of blood donors at any time. More donations are lost than they take because of their chaotic working practices.
I encountered the problem with the Blood Transfusion Service and told them exactly why I stopped offering to give blood.
I was a regular donor when I lived in London. I could get to the transfusion centre, give blood and return within 90 minutes.
The last time I attended to give blood in King's Lynn, I gave up after waiting over an hour.
The giving of blood should take no longer than an hour of anyone's time. The Blood Transfusion Service needs to get its act together.
People do not have hours to sit and wait to make a donation. Keep each session open for the full day once they set up.
Why have booking times for some? If they want our blood freely given, then treat all donors as equal: first come, first donor and thank you!
