Elm and Friday Bridge should have been a crow free zone over the weekend thanks to the annual scarecrow competition which attracted over 25 entries.
Richard Barnwell, auctioneer and former High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire, judged the scarecrows with resident Tina Brooks.
Winner was ‘Pierre’ created by Christine Brennan of Lime Avenue, Elm.
Special awards were given to The Orchard Tea Rooms in Redmoor Lane, Elm for their ‘Scarecrow’s Tea Party’ and ‘Colin’ made by Roger Smith from The Stitch, Friday Bridge, for all the effort they had put into their scarecrows.
Prizes were also given to three scarecrows made by children.
A presentation was made by Bob Wardle, who organised the event, in the evening at The Sportsman, Elm, where several contestants turned up with their scarecrows.
Organisers thanked those who helped delivering leaflets and also Fridaybridge Fish Shop and other businesses who made donations. k Between them, the two villages put on over 70 yard sales, which were very well attended, despite the weather.
