FIRSTLY may I offer my condolences to Mr Ashton for the tragic loss of his wife Sadet. It is my belief that certain parties are looking at the A1101 issue from the wrong angle.
I have driven the stretch of the A1101 from Long Sutton to Wisbech, on and off for some 28 years.
I have knowledge of a lot of the accidents that have occurred over the years and it is my belief that the road is not to blame in any of them.
If a person is pushed, falls or throws himself or herself from a tall building, do we blame the pavement for their death?
Time and again I believe these accidents are caused by risk taking, bad car control, use of mobile phones and bad judgement.
The A1101 has seen many attempts to make it safer over the past 18 months including a ludicrous red line down the centre and now equally ridiculous "SLOW" signs painted into the roads surface at far too regular intervals.

Further draconian measures such as an enforced 40mph limit and even speed camera's will not improve things and only serve to frustrate people and force them into more risks and errors of judgement.
As for reducing the bend of the road? It is not even a severe corner at the site in question and can be negotiated very safely at the national speed limit in both dry and wet conditions without risk.
When will people realise that a road cannot be blamed for taking a life.
They need to listen to people like David Frost, head of CCC's road safety.
Drivers need to be better educated and more severely punished for careless driving. Speed alone is not the problem and neither is cold hard Tarmac.
