I REFER to David Gunning's letter, responding to mine of August 11. I agree with him that a 20mph limit may be desirable in the immediate vicinity of the schools in Maple Grove, March, but only during the couple of hours of each school day that children are at risk. For the rest of the day, and at weekends and during school holidays, there is no need for a limit lower than 30mph.

As Mr Gunning says, 20mph does apply outside some schools in nearby towns and villages. However, in Sawtry, for example, the limit on most local roads is 40mph.

Yes, Maple Grove has become busier over time, but so have similar roads lined on both sides with domestic dwellings. Presumably a similar proportion of residents are cat owners, so how do they cope?
