FUTURE musical stars from Wisbech impressed judges at the regional round of the Rotary Young Musician Competition.

Chelsie Smithson was described as “very talented” after her renditions of On My Own from Les Miserables and Don’t Rain On My Parade from Funny Girl.

And Emily Lyall won equally high praise for her performance of Think of Me from Phantom of the Opera and My Name is Tallulah from Bugsy Malone.

Fellow Thomas Clarkson Community College pupil Joshua Bett’s saxophone versions of Waltz for Emily and Mr Creek were also commended as they were joined on the piano by French teacher Hannah Shapey.

A spokesman for the contest said: “The adjudicators commented of the very high standard of every performance and expressed their regret that only one vocalist and one instrumentalist could go forward to the National Final.

“Although not successful on this occasion taking into account the Regional Catchment Area covered, all three students are very talented musicians as borne out by the judges’ comments.”
