I WRITE to express my heartfelt opposition to the proposal to close the Post Office in St Peter's Road, March.

This would leave March with no Post Office to the south of the town and it is 10 minutes' fast walking to the town centre where the always-crowded Post Office is housed at the back of a small Tesco shop and where queuing for 20 minutes or more is normal.

March has an elderly population; many pensioners have relocated here from other areas because housing is relatively cheap. In addition, there are six homes for the elderly at this end of the town.

Despite the best efforts of the local council, March remains a deprived area. There are few places for the elderly to meet and socialise, and the Post Office is one amenity that we can ill afford to lose.

I myself am over 70 and the thought of having to queue for ages in the oppressive atmosphere of the Tesco Post Office just to have a parcel weighed fills me with dread.

Please don't close our Post Office.
