MY wife and I moved from Wisbech to Somerset three months ago, without the opportunity of expressing our appreciation to the many good people who were good friends and neighbours to us, over a period of 13 years.
We moved to Wisbech in 1994 and established our antiquarian bookshop, Gracetitles Books, which introduced us to Wisbech.
In the churches, the Chamber of Commerce, the WI, the Royal British Legion, Wisbech Labour Party and the Wisbech Society we met many lovely folk, who gave us their time and their friendship, memories which we will keep with us.
While we cannot list all those kind folk who made our time in Wisbech so memorable, we would urge any newcomers to use the local shops, with their range of goods and specialist services not available from supermarkets, to visit the historic Angles Theatre and keep it alive, and to wholeheartedly support the efforts of the Town Council and the Wisbech Society to promote the historic town of Wisbech and keep it open.
Our view is that no new rules are needed for the Market Place, only enforcement of the existing bylaws.
Wisbech needs its Christian churches, its local shops, its park and its Georgian architecture. Moreover, it sorely needs to build on its multi-racial community and to deal with the problems of foreign workers, who are themselves in need of greater help and guidance in their new country.
Thank-you for your most lively and interesting local paper, which we would also urge all residents to support.
Our best regards and all good wishes for a Happy New Year to all your readers.
