AS a resident of March for seven years, I lament the inexorable degradation of the town centre.

I fear that before long, March will become a ghost town. There is an air of decay that the local council seems unwilling to stem.

The only people who benefit from this state of affairs are the groups of drunken rowdy youths roaming the streets, whose main weekend sport is to target shop windows. The town vandals go about their nefarious business with monotonous regularity, certain in the knowledge that they will rarely be caught and punished.

Why are prime sites left empty, thus acting as a magnet for the destructive element plaguing this community? Where are the incentives for business growth and development that would benefit all, ensuring a better quality of life?

There is no excuse for this neglect. Those responsible should be made to act now, before it's too late. It is a scandal that so many commercial premises are left abandoned in a town with a population of this size.
