I AM writing in response to the letter in last week's Standard about the new Wisbech Foyer Development for homeless young adults.

As a young man who has just moved into the Foyer I would like to say how outraged I am about the letter sent in by Craig McGill. He is only stereotyping and assuming that everyone, including myself, is the same as people shown night after night on the news and receiving anti-social behavioural orders.

I along with the other tenants have discussed this issue and can't believe that people such as Mr McGill have no belief in the youth of today. After all we are the future.

As for the rooms, yes everything is new. But there are no sets of vertical blinds in any of the rooms, the satellite television is an extra option which we have to pay for out of our own pockets. I can't afford it so I haven't got it

Although we have some tropical plants they are not in expensive designer pots and they are not in our rooms. The integrated cafe, again we have to pay for, and as for the CCTV, that is for safety reasons.

Mr McGill refers to OAPs living in cold conditions every winter and to local contractors not being used for this development. In fact local contractors were used in this development. I do agree with the first statement entirely, but young people have to have somewhere to live, and to live in a place like the Foyer is an absolute blessing.

Although many may think the Foyer is a little over the top, I say imagine when the River Development is completed, if the Foyer was all shabby it wouldn't reflect well on the image that Wisbech is trying to portray. At least this building will fit in, and when the River Development is all completed nobody will even notice it.

This new development is not only giving hope to myself, but also to all the other tenants so we can get on with our lives and do better for ourselves in the future. You could say that the Wisbech Foyer is an incentive to do better with our lives.

So, Mr McGill, although you and many other people believe nobody listens or cares about what you may think, may this serve not only as proof that people do listen, but also that the Wisbech Foyer is a positive step into the future of Wisbech.
