WITH reference to the ongoing debate about the fatalities in road traffic 'accidents' in Sutton Road A1101, I feel I must state my view, as I have been personally affected as a result of reckless driving on that road: my job has been taken from me and I am now having to seek alternative employment.

Until very recently I worked in Sutton Road.

However, because of the ill health of my employer, she has now had to wind down and retire from business life.

The current poor state of her health, both physical and psychological, can be directly attributed to the collision.

Although this 'accident' happened three years ago, the effects have been ongoing and degenerative for my employer, until the situation today, which leaves me now seeking work, instead of continuing to do what I enjoy and have been successful at for the past 14 years. I cannot describe the many ways in which my employer's life has been irreversibly damaged.

The premises where I was based are fronted by a ditch and it is no longer a surprise or even a shock to arrive and find a vehicle in it.

A year ago, at the end of this month, two young people were killed in the driveway, one of whom was the daughter of a friend of mine and had gone to school locally with my own children. This particular tragedy served to keep my mind and those of my colleagues off our work for some time.

Therefore, you understand, I have a genuine interest in the outcome, not so much of the debate taking place in your pages, but of the County Council and Highways Department discussions. I can only pray that measures will be put in place that serve to raise drivers' awareness of the dangers of taking the many, seemingly innocuous, bends on that road too fast.
