THE media has had a field day with stories of MPs expenses and, more recently, BBC expenses.
Last week Fenland District councillors allowances and expenses were published; over �300,000 was paid out for the year.
Add that to the Cambridgeshire county councillors and the rest of Cambridgeshire district councillors' allowances plus the salaries of the executives and managers and you have a phenomenal sum.
Go nationwide with that and the cost to the tax payer doesn't bear thinking about.
But could North Cambs, for example, including March and Wisbech and Whittlesey amalgamate with Peterborough?
And could Chatteris, Ely, Huntingdon and South Cambridgeshire amalgamate with Cambridge.

Of course it will never happen because everybody wishes to maintain their own autonomy.
