I was under the impression the immigrants came here to start a new life - be like us, get jobs, homes, cars, schooling etc. Be a British Citizen.
How are they to achieve this if we encourage them to speak their native language and read it in the paper?
If these people are to be accepted into our community and life they must be encouraged to speak English all the time. Were the shoe on the other foot, how would it be?
I am a pensioner and at times it is a little scary in the supermarket where they stand in having a chat. Ignorance of what they are saying, especially when the tones get louder, is frightening. I have been known to say to mums with children, 'help them, and speak English.'
