ALTHOUGH the Church of England General Synod eventually voted in favour of women Bishops, the fact that the issue caused so much bile and consternation among its members has underlined some of the hypocritical double standards of mainstream religion generally.
The conventional wisdom that's always presented is that religion shouldn't be confused with politics.
Yet, any social survey will reveal that those who worship and attend church regularly are mainly from the middle classes upwards to the aristocracy and who, under normal circumstances when there is some sort of ideological distinction between the main political parties, would vote Tory!
