REGARDING Reuben Stewart's comments on his bid to house his children and relatives at the little acre site, I commend him for such loyalty and commitment.

What he fails to realise is that the majority of people would like to do the same but we are all constrained by council and government guidelines.

If I had a 10-acre field outside the green belt and asked to house my family, what do you think the response would be? It would be 'no'.

I have no problems with the travelling community but for some reason they appear to think they should have special rights and the second they don't get their way they claim they are being discriminated against in the hope the council will back down.

If they hope for the day travellers will get on with the council, they should join the queue behind the many homeowners who have the same problem.

If Mr Stewart is granted permission, I would like to purchase the land next to him and build eight houses for my family. How could the council refuse? I am no different to Mr Stewart, am I? So would the travellers' council take my case to the European high court as well? Once you allow one the flood gates will open.

It may also have helped Mr Stewart's case if the facade of his site wasn't piled with rubbish and caravans for sale. The neighbouring Newbridge Lane site is even worse.

This may not be travellers causing the mess but if it attracts fly tippers, more caravans are not going to help. Is it any wonder people only bypass Wisbech, after seeing all that mess? I certainly wouldn't stop.

So, Mr Stewart, if you want to be treated the same as everyone else in the community why don't you accept the same rules and abide by them without using the discrimination card when it suits you.

That way people will respect you and not treat you differently. Then you can be bitter along with all the others that have been refused planning.
