ON reading 'MP's warning on influx of workers' I experienced a moment of deja vu.

He must have read some UKIP literature. We have been advocating tighter control of our own borders for some time now.

Indeed, many sentiments Malcolm Moss expressed could be taken from my letter which was published recently.

The free movement of migrant workers into this country (I note that France, through which they pass in order to get here, has a strict quota system) is harmful to our GDP as much of the money migrant workers earn goes back to their home country and our infrastructure - houses in multi-occupation only attract the minimum council tax.

Mr Moss mentioned that local labour markets were controlled by gang masters, who favour cheaper foreign labour. This is an indictment of the final employers who find it cheaper to accept the people sent to them instead of operating their own recruitment campaigns. These employers are also relived of the task of working our PAYE.

His comments about untaxed cars echo my own complaints to the police. The claims that a car is taxed in its country of origin are often spurious. An eastern European friend of mine has told me that many of the tax discs shown on the number plates of these cars are out of date.

Mass movement also harms the economies of those countries which the workers leave. Poland and Lithuania are experiencing a dearth of skilled workers.

However, before John Denham and Mr Moss claim the moral high ground let us consider who it was that opened the flood gates.

The prime offender was one-time Tory Prime Minister Edward Heath, who sold European Union to the people of this island, claiming it was a free trade agreement. As he signed the document, Heath knew the full implications of European Union. He had already signed away our fishing rights.

Although the Iron Lady (Margaret Thatcher) forced a reduction in our net contribution (which Blair later gave away), even she did not have the guts to take us out of Europe. The least said about John Major's ineptitude against the Brussels autocrats the better.

If Mr Moss really means what he says about accession treaties, I suggest he emulates Winston Churchill and crosses the floor. He would then be the first UKIP MP.

As I have said before "We have in Blair, not an ambassador to Europe, but Europe's ambassador to Britain.

UKIP, the only party to tell us the truth about European Union, wants control of our own borders.
