THIS evening, I pulled into a vacant parking space immediately opposite March Kebab House on Station Road at about 8.15pm.
I was annoyed to note that a police patrol car was parked on the pavement opposite, straddling double yellow lines whilst an officer in uniform was waiting in the queue in the kebab shop for his food order. Now I'm no angel where driving is concerned and I do appreciate the fact that officers have to obtain food to eat, but can you please explain why it is considered acceptable for the officer to flout the law whilst doing so? Buying a kebab is not an emergency.
I don't want to blow this out of proportion, but do want to make the valid point that public trust in the police and a willingness to help officers do a hard job is always undermined by such tiny selfish and inconsiderate actions.

(Editor's note: Mr Abbott has written a longer letter to the Chief Constable, and enclosed a photograph he took of the offending car).
