I REFER to the letter from Brian Baylis (August 1), in which he says that "it was discovered at the time of their removal that these coaches would not have been of use to us on this line, because of the manner in which they were coupled together".
This leads me to question the technical competence of those who purchased the coaches in the first place.
They were relatively modern air-conditioned vehicles with no opening windows, and their use in public service would have required a locomotive equipped to provide sufficient electrical supply to the train power the air-con equipment.
