JUST in case your readers did not read the Public Notice page in your paper last week, not the most exciting page I suspect, I note that Fenland District Council are seeking residents comments on their draft Wind Turbine Development Policy which will be used as a guide in considering future proposals for wind turbines in Fenland.
Comments need to be sent to the District Council before January 16 2009.
There are going to be no public exhibitions, no public meetings, only a chance to read this 86 page complex document at the One Stop shops or by going onto their website.
Call me cynical, but I doubt whether many residents will even begin to understand this large complex technical document particularly when the consultation period covers the Christmas holiday, hardly festive reading.
Residents of Fenland, who have to live in close proximity to these large structures, now a real problem as residents of Whittlesey will tell you, really do deserve something better from the District Council.
Having to wait some eight years for the district council to even begin to formulate a draft policy is bad enough, now to have to visit the offices of the district council to read such a complex document over the Christmas period is a step too far.
Come on Fenland District Council, consult your residents properly on these major developments that are dramatically changing not only our countryside, but our lives as well, often for the worse.
We need public exhibitions where planning officers can explain this complex policy, public meetings for residents to air their views and a period of consultation that does not conflict with one of the most important holiday periods of the year.
