A man who breached a court order and stole from a shop has been jailed.
Darren Bezdek, 54, was handed the Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) on 22 April last year after persistent anti-social behaviour in Wisbech town centre.
The order states that for the next three years while the order is in place, he must not:
- enter the Market Place in Wisbech
- enter the Horsefair shopping centre in Wisbech
- beg in any public place.
Failure to comply with the conditions of the CBO is an arrestable offence.
On 23 July, Bezdek was caught on CCTV entering Savers Health and Beauty, Market Place, a direct breach of his court order.
He was also caught picking up four packs of washing pods before leaving the store without paying.
Later the same evening, officers found him in Church Terrace, Wisbech, where he was arrested.
Bezdek, of Napier Court, Wisbech, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 14 where he admitted breaching his CBO by entering Market Place and theft of products worth £51.96 from Savers Health and Beauty.
He was sentenced to 52 weeks in prison.
PC Justin Bielawski, from the Wisbech Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Bezdek is well-known around town for causing a nuisance, primarily for begging and shoplifting.
“Tackling street drinking and associated anti-social behaviour in the town centre is a priority for our team, which we tackle through the partnership work of Operation Luscombe, of which Bedzek is a focus of.
“Through the operation, he has been offered support to steer him away from his offending and substance misuse, and work is already underway to work with him while he is in prison and to support him upon his release.”
