TOO often people complain about the power of Tesco and other supermarkets, or the paucity of ‘good shops’ in our towns.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

But every one of us has the power to keep our local shopping centres alive and thriving. All we need to do is use them.

Might I make two simple gentle suggestions that any one of us could consider.

• When you need something, why not buy it from a local shop instead of the Internet, a large supermarket, or out of town?

Obviously people can choose to shop wherever they want, but if you value your local shops then the best way to help and protect them is to use them.

Of course, some things cannot be sourced easily in town, but if they can then why not?

• Enjoy Yourself. Next time you’ve got a free hour or two, why not take a trip into town?

Have a look around, talk to some people, browse the shops. If you don’t have a brass farthing to your name, just take a stroll and enjoy the fresh air.

You might be surprised how much fun you can have and how much there is to do, see and buy.

If you love and value your local shops and businesses - use them!
