WITH regard to your article on Welney Wash (January 25).
If Mr Rands of Norfolk County Council has not looked at the cost of raising a causeway recently, how does he know that the cost is likely to be prohibitive?
In my experience of building similar structures in East Africa, a causeway built of low grade granular material protected with stone, together with a series of Armco-type culverts to allow the flood water to flow freely, would solve the problem.
I realise that the cost of the structure has to be balanced against the cost and inconvenience of having to make considerable detours.
For a main road to be out of use for more than 10 per cent of the year in this day and age is not acceptable.
