Sea Foxtrot in Wisbech Port.

LARGE tugs that service the offshore wind farm currently being built in the Wash are bringing new business into Wisbech.

Vessels like the Sea Foxtrot are coming into the port every seven to 10 days to change crew and pick up food and provisions for the big, cable-laying barges offshore.

Councillor Mac Cotterell, Fenland District Council’s portfolio holder responsible for the port and marine services, said: “This is all very good for the town. Sometimes these boats are collecting provisions for up to 50 men and all those supplies being bought from the local supermarkets and shops via the port’s shipping agents.

“The captains are very impressed with the services provided from a small port and say it makes a nice change from using the bigger, busier ports on the Humber.”
