Ely Cinema will be screening the live broadcast of the National Theatre’s production of Coriolanus from the Donmar Warehouse on Thursday January 30.
Shakespeare’s searing tragedy of political manipulation and revenge, stars Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers, War Horse (film), BBC’s The Hollow Crown) in the title role and Mark Gatiss (BBC’s Sherlock) as Menenius.
The production is directed by the Donmar’s artistic director Josie Rourke.
When an old adversary threatens Rome, the city calls once more on her hero and defender, Coriolanus. But he has enemies at home too. Famine threatens the city, the citizens’ hunger swells to an appetite for change, and on returning from the field, Coriolanus must confront the march of realpolitik and the voice of an angry people.
Caroline Cawley, marketing manager at ADeC, who manage the cinema, said: ‘Tom Hiddleston is returning to the stage after several very high profile film roles, and this production at the Donmar sold-out within 20 minutes.
“This will be our first NT live production in 2014, with War Horse live coming up on February 27. We do still have some tickets on sale for that production, but advance booking is highly recommended’ .
