Wisbech 1st XV suffered a tough defeat to Woodbridge on Saturday afternoon, losing 30-14 to the ninth place side in the London 3 Eastern Counties.

Despite scoring two tries, Wisbech were on the back foot for the majority of the game, with Woodbridge showing their dominance throughout.

It took the hosts ten minutes to put points on the board when poor discipline from Wisbech allowed Woodbridge to take the lead through a pair of penalties and try, making sure the Warriors first half supremacy counted, going into the break 11-0 up.

The second half did not start well for the visitors, Woodbridge attacking play overwhelmed Wisbech for the majority of the half and the home side scored freely.

Poor defence from Wisbech allowed Woodbridge to peal of the driving maul on the blind side for the softest of unconverted tries to increase the lead to 16-0 for the home side.

Within three minutes of the restart a kick through by Woodbridge beating the Wisbech defence to the ball and scoring, adding a conversion, to make it 23-0.

Wisbech showed glimpses of what they were capable of, Lewis Haddon managed to break free and put Maxx Hudson through to put Wisbech on the board with a try, which Andy Claydon converted.

But any chance of a late comeback was soon extinguished by a converted Woodbridge try, earning Woodbridge its first bonus points of the season and making it 30-7.

Wisbech Skipper Solomon Prestige scored in the closing moments for Wisbech, Claydon got his second conversion, but it would not be enough.

Woodbridge held off and the Men in Red made the long journey back to Wisbech suffering a difficult defeat in what was a tough game of rugby.
