Reed had a hand in all four goals last night as the Fenmen breezed to victory at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium. As well as scoring a stunning left-footed strike, his crosses led to two own goals and a tap-in for captain Scott Johnson.

Appleby said: “When you get Callum on the ball in space, there’s nobody better at this level. He was back to his best.

“We want to have all our big players firing and we’re looking to them to lead us.”

Reed was also on target on Saturday as Wisbech beat struggling Great Yarmouth Town 1-0.

“On Saturday I wasn’t a happy bunny at all,” said Appleby. “We were absolutely appalling. We played well for 25 seconds - we took the kick off, started a great move and hit the bar. After that we were pants.

“We needed to come back strong and that’s what we did last night. It was one wave of attack after another, the midfield was good and we defended well.

“It was a pretty complete performance.”

Wisbech, who sit sixth in the Ridgeons Premier Division, host FC Clacton on Saturday (Kick-off 3pm). Lewis Thompson (ankle) is doubtful while Paul Cousins (shin) should be fit.

Stacy Cartwright, who played for the reserves at the weekend despite his facial injuries, may yet be fit for some of the Fenmen’s run-in.

Appleby said: “I’ve told the boys not to look at the league table now but look at it in two or three weeks when we have our played games in hand. All of a sudden, we could end up back near the top.”
