An eight-year-old boy from Mepal competed in the final of a regional junior billiards event.

William Chambers lost in the final of the Eastern Counties Junior Billiards Championships Plate Event to Harley Dyson, an 18-year-old from Norfolk.

The score was 111 – 91 to Harley.

A spokesman said: “This was a great effort by the Mepal youngster as Dyson was the runner-up in this year’s English under 19s billiards championship.

“This illustrated the potential Chambers has at both billiards and snooker.”

Earlier in the day William had lost 2 – 1 in the semi-final of the Eastern Counties Junior Snooker Championship Plate event to another more experienced player, Harry Grimmett.

Harry is 13-years-old and is from Norfolk. He lead the match 1 – 0.

The event was held at Maltings Q Club in King’s Lynn.

Billiards is a cue sport for two players or teams. Two cue balls (originally both white, with one marked, but more recently one white, one yellow) and a red object ball are used.

Each player or team uses a different cue ball. It is played on a billiards table with the same dimensions as a snooker table and points are scored for cannons and pocketing the balls.
