Wisbech is now home to five national Speed Skating champions.
The town’s crop of talented skaters continued their successful season by storming to victory on five fronts at the British Indoor Inline Championships in Maldon, Essex, last weekend.
Youngsters Arthur Buckler, Eve McInerney, Lucy McInerney, Flynn McGurk and Warren Eve were crowned as Britain’s best in the mini boys, mini girls and relay races and the club’s eight other members also brought a host of medals and trophies back to Fenland.
Wisbech’s winning weekend began courtesy of seven-year-old Buckler’s victory in the first race of the mini boys category, before Eve McInerney sealed her first win in the girls’ time trial category with an impressive time of 12.192 seconds.
Jo Tidman scooped a bronze medal in the Masters Ladies time trial and coach Glen Brown marked his return to the sport with third place in the same race in the men’s category, before newcomer Taylor Barker, 8, triumphed in the Rat Races in what was his first ever tournament.
Buckler was then crowned champion after finishing in first in the 200m and 500m races and Eve took the national honours thanks to first and third-place finishes in the 500m and 1,500m.
Wisbech then transferred their success over to the relay races, with McGurk and Warren Eve taking the club’s first ever boys title, before twin sisters Eve and Lucy McInerney triumphed in the girls’ race.
Coach Mike McInerney said: “All the hard work at training has paid of with these fantastic results.
“Everyone in the team should be very proud of their performances.”
The team will now hope to experience success in an outdoor format at the British Outdoor Championships in July.
