FENLAND’S football managers have called for a common sense approach to rescheduling matches as the wintry weather continues to play havoc with the fixture list.

All games were postponed in the Ridgeons League at the weekend, with Wisbech Town unable to host Diss Town and March Town United unable to entertain Team Bury.

The Hares’ Ridgeons First Division Knockout Cup quarter-final clash with Thetford Town tonight has also been postponed. It will now be played next Tuesday (February 21).

Fenmen boss Steve Appleby had voiced his frustration after his side’s postponed match with Felixstowe & Walton United was rescheduled as a midweek game - but the league has now moved it to a vacant Saturday, March 31.

March manager Brett Whaley said it was important to take a “common sense” approach to rearranging games.

He said: “It almost feels like if you have a good cup run, you can get punished with a lot of midweek league fixtures.”

March will be without Craig Norman, who is out for six weeks with a fractured elbow, and the suspended Marc Welcher for their trip to Cambridge University Press on Saturday.

Caretaker manager Julian Young was unable to take charge of his first Chatteris Town game on Saturday as their clash with Brampton was postponed. The Lilies travel to Great Shelford on Saturday.

• WISBECH Rugby Club travel to London Exiles on Saturday for the second attempt at staging their Junior Vase quarter-final.

The fixture was pushed back a week after this weekend’s postponement. The Harecroft Road outfit, who are four wins from the final at Twickenham, will be without Greg Brownlow but should have winger James Hodgson available.
