Simon Flanz has resigned as Wisbech Town Reserves manager – less than two months after taking the job.

The popular former Fenmen player cited a lack of commitment from players as the major factor behind his decision to walk away from the Peterborough & District League Premier Division side.

“I knew I was taking over a team that was left without a single player,” said Flanz. “But having to build a completely new squad in a short space of time was unrealistic.

“I managed to bring in seven quality players, but plenty signings I had in mind didn’t want to commit and my goalkeeper then quit.

“I have high standards and will not just sign players just to make up the numbers. I’m not the sort of person to settle for being in mid-table – I wanted to finish in the top three.

“I’ve decided to go now to give the club as much chance as possible to get a manager in place.

“Unfortunately commitment is terrible from players nowadays. They would sooner sign for a side who are two or three divisions lower than play at a club and level where they have to put the effort in.”
