THE UKIP anti-immigration protest planned for Wisbech Park in May has been slammed by a number of the town’s community groups.

Representatives from Trade Unions, the Police, churches, pensioners and residents as well as Labour and Conservative councillors spoke out against the demonstration, which they claim will incite tensions and lead to more violence in the town. at a meeting held at the Rosmini Centre.

Martin Field, president of the WMD TUC, who chaired the meeting, said: “It is clearly the feeling of the meeting that we don’t consider it necessary to oppose the demonstration itself but the myths and lies and exaggerations that they choose to believe and aim to spread to others.

“When the Police tell us that they fear the anti-immigration feelings stirred up by the demonstration will legitimise more anti-migrant sentiments including leading to more violent assaults, then we know it is not good enough for decent, ordinary people in the area to sit back and do nothing.”

Dean Everitt, the organiser of an anti-immigration protest, believes UKIP is the only political party capable of putting an end to Bulgarians and Romanians coming into Britain.

He said Britain is at breaking point “with the sheer volume of Eastern Europeans coming here taking homes and jobs. Not one home has been built or one job created yet one million have been let in”.

But Dean Reeves, who was the Labour candidate in this year’s Wisbech Fenland District Council By-election, said his views were not representative of the majority of the town’s people who are fed up of immigrants being blamed for unemployment and housing shortages.

He said: “Despite the wide background of those attending there was a clear consensus that the people of the Fens do not share the anti-immigrant stance of the group and they wanted to counter the myths and lies to stir up division in the community.”

  • Amusing in the above article with "not one home has been built or one job created'. Really?! Along with believing spoof emails and articles - such as the now famous Julia Gillard hoax about immigration - and further spreading these as the 'truth', this does show the reported spreading of myths and lies to hold some truth for these groups. Also looks like a fellow 'anti-immigration group member has posted their 'impartial' view to try defending the group. They perhaps need a Media Liaison Officer?! ;-)

  • Wisbech Standard really ought to get themselves and there reporters to get their facts right before you print. I have had confirmation that 1. UKIP are not holding any protests in Wisbech. 2, According to the police there is a Wisbech Immigration Issues Demo being held in Wisbech in May 2013. 3. The Police were involved in this type of Demo before and are quite happy that it is peaceful and not anti or violent in anyway. 4. You did quote Dean Everitt most of that is true, but his personal political persuasion has nothing to do with this demo. You should have contacted him. 5. You state that the enmass eu migrants has not caused any problems with housing, Jobs, Hospitals, Doctors Surgeries, Schools etc maybe you need to check official figures again. 6. I am sure if there is a British Union in Wisbech it will stand up and fight for the British workers jobs that they have lost. 7. An organization I know of has spoken to businessmen, pensioners, residents about the Demo and the problems Wisbech is experiencing, and they welcome the chance for people to get together and discuss how the people can get the government to protect British peoples lives, heritage and towns and villages. 8. No one has contacted Sharon Jardine who set this group up with Dean Everitt for her side of this issue.

  • D'oh!! Jo Moore. My craftily blurb left out Brits. my roots are only traceable to a stinky old workhouse in Devon, many of my other native folk were shipped off to penal colony's as they were considered restless natives too. The natives are again getting restless with their empowered elite. Rising unemployment, lack of jobs, shortage of affordable homes, failing NHS,blah,blah...all caused by our membership of the failed EU club...The natives want CHANGE, the natives are getting restless, only UKIP can offer the natives this CHANGE..VOTE UKIP for real CHANGE , simples!!

  • @nrg The 'native' Brits are the Celts, not the Anglo-Saxons who came from France or Germany... or you could go back further, and say the native Brits (ie the first people to ever inhabit Britain) came to the land from the Niger Delta, seen as this is the first place on earth where human life existed. There is no such thing as 'native' British people, we've always been a mix and we always will be, like it or not :D

  • Sounds like the 'usual suspects' who've let the native population down in the past and present, are running scared of native people power. Vote UKIP for real CHANGE, simples.
