Damage caused by vandals at Wisbech Town Football Club.

WISBECH Town Football Club is facing a costly New Year clean-up after vandals caused about £500 damage to the toilets at their ground.

Offenders tore soap dispensers from the wall, smashed a mirror, threw towels around and wrecked the disabled toilet at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium.

A spokesman for Norfolk Police said they believe the damage was caused some time between 2pm on Boxing Day and 10-45am on Sunday.

The spokesman said: “Offenders caused about £500 of damage to various fittings in the toilets.

“Anybody with information about the incident should contact Pc Peter Warby, from the Downham Market Safer Neighbourhood Team, on 101.”

Spenny Larham, Wisbech’s website editor, said the club was hoping to install a CCTV system following the incident.

He said: “We have cleaned up the men’s and ladies’ toilets as best we can but the disabled toilet is currently unusable. It means we will have to spend about £500 of club money on the repairs.

“It is infuriating because it is just so pointless.”

Wisbech played out a 0-0 draw with Godmanchester Rovers at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium on Boxing Day.
