Wisbech teenager in the running to be named country’s best apprentice farmer

A teenager from Fenland is a finalist in a national agricultural competition which is looking to find the best apprentice farmer in the country, with £10,000 up for grabs for the winner.

Richard Bradley, 18, of Wisbech, has travelled to Easton and Otley College in Norfolk to participate in a boot camp.

Forty-eight people submitted a video explaining why they should be considered to enter this event, which is being co-ordinated by Farmers Weekly RBI, McDonalds, Anglia Farmers, Bayer Cropscience, The Co-operative, New Holland UK and ROI and Easton and Otley College.

Ten finalists were chosen, who will compete against each other in a series of business challenges.

All the contestants are being filmed throughout the boot camp and the final programme will be aired online (via Farmers Weekly) in September 2014. Phillipa Hall (from Sky news) is presenting.

Mr Bradley said, “I wanted to do this two years ago but wasn’t old enough. I’m happy to meet some new contacts and learn lots of new skills. Winning isn’t the main reason I’m here but it would be a boost to my career.”
