NEW figures reveal more than 42,000 drivers were caught by speed cameras in Cambridgeshire during 2010.

Police have released a breakdown of how many times each of the county’s 37 fixed cameras were set off by cars.

It shows a camera enforcing the 30mph limit on the Lynn Road, in Wisbech, went off 1,040 times in 2011.

A camera on the B1101 in The Avenue, March, was activated 1065 times.

A speed camera on the notorious Forty Foot Bank was triggered 839 times last year, it emerged..

Cameras around Cambridge were the busiest, with one being set off 2487 times. A unit on Peterborugh’s Bourges Boulevard went off 2332 times.

Cameras in rural areas were not triggered as often, with one at Barton, in South Cambridgeshire, going off just three times all year.

In total, Cambridgeshire’s speed cameras were set off 42,755 times, according to figures released in response to a Freedom of Information request.

Mobile speed cameras across the county were set off more than 27,000 times.

The number of actuations which resulted in prosecutions is not known.
