Wisbech student chef one step away from Spanish holiday after progressing to final of major competition

A student from Wisbech is in with a shot of winning a holiday to Spain after progressing to the final of a major cookery competition.
Sam Jordan, a second year cookery student at the College of West Anglia Isle campus in Wisbech, has been selected as one of the eight finalists for the Olive it catering college competition to be held on June 3 at Central School Cookery School in London.
The first prize is an all-inclusive gastronomic weekend for two to Spain worth £4,000, £400 of chef’s professional equipment of his choice and a week’s placement at chef Omar Allibhoy’s award-winning Tapas Revolution restaurant in London.
Sam, who still has one more year to go on the Level 2 Professional Cookery course, said: “It would be excellent to win. But it will be a lot harder than other competitions because other entrants could be professionals up to the age of 25.”
In the final, Sam will have four hours to prepare ten of his canapés, four starters, four main courses and four desserts.
His courses, which must all feature olives, will be judged by a panel of industry professionals.
