A Wisbech man who works in Ely was banned from driving for three months after he was caught travelling at 124mph on the A47.

Ernestas Nevardauskas, of Bath Road, was recorded speeding along the dual carriageway at Tilney All Saints on November 12 last year.

A traffic camera spotted the 24-year-old, who works as a machine operator in Ely, driving a BMW 530D at around 9.35am.

Norwich Magistrates’ Court heard on Monday how Nevardauskas, who pleaded guilty, put his foot down after receiving an urgent call from his mother.

Jeff Lewis, mitigating, said: “She indicated she was extremely unwell and was alone in the house.

“She could not get to her medication because she felt so dizzy and wanted him to get back as soon as possible.

“Because he was panicked by what his mother told him, he drove too fast and he is very sorry for that.”

Nevardauskas had only recently paid £600 for a HGV licence.

As well as a three-month driving ban, he was fined £250, ordered to pay a £25 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.
