DISGRUNTLED Whittlesey residents have complained of poor service from Royal Mail since before Christmas.
Snoots Road and Saxon Road residents claim the quality of service has deteriorated in the past six weeks, with letters not arriving until late in the afternoon and parcels going missing.
Empty Post Box, an aggrieved Saxon Road resident, said: “Since just before Christmas our Royal Mail delivery in the Saxon Road area of Whittlesey has been disgraceful. Delivery can get here any time now.
“They have taken our old postman off our round and we suffer. He got mail here before 8.30am most days.
“Now post does not arrive till 4.30pm and I am having trouble ordering things from retail shops or online because they are not getting delivered to my address.
“I am having to call the suppliers and they are having to re-send goods.
“Whoever planned this new way of letters getting to us wants to put our old post man back and let us get back to a good service.”
Royal Mail has made changes to their local delivery operations in Orton Southgate as part of their ongoing modernisation and transformation programme.
Royal Mail spokesman, Jennifer Bird said: “The time customers receive mail will depend on where they live on the delivery route.
“This may be later or possibly earlier than previous delivery times. The majority of people will get their mail by lunchtime.
“It may also mean that some customers will also have a different postman or woman.
“These changes will require a period of adjustment for our staff. There have been a few teething problems as we bed in the changes and postmen and women adapt to them or new routes.”
Mrs Bird assured residents Royal Mail would work to improve their service.
She said: “We apologise if customers have seen an impact from our changes.
“However, Royal Mail is doing everything possible to maintain a high level of service that our customers expect and deserve.
